Our best friend closed her eyes last night,

As she lay gently in our hands.

The doctor said she couldn't breath

and it was impossible for her to stand.

The thoughts that cascaded through our minds,

As we cradled her in our arms

Were of the short, but joyous years we shared

and her many gentle charms.
